The Epistle to Diognetus /
by E.H. Blakeney.
- London : New York : Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge ; Macmillan, 1943.
- 94 pages ; 19 cm
Includes bibliographical references and index.
Formerly attributed to Justin Martyr; not cited by any ancient or medieval writer, existed in a single manuscript, lost in the siege of Strasburg (1870). The identification of Diognetus with the teacher of Marcus Aurelius, is, at most, plausible. Actual author's name and date is unknown; the letter breaks off at the end of chapter x; it may have originally been much longer. The last two chapters (xi, xii) bear no relation to the rest of the letterand seem to be a fragment of a homily of later dat.
Text in Greek, with introductory notes and commentary in English.
