Summary, etc Uit het particuliere leven van dezen grooten profeet is ons weinig bekend. Hij was de zoon van een zekeren Amoz over wien verder in den Bijbel niets vermeld wordt. Wel geven ons zijn profetieën aanleiding tot verschillende onderstellingen, zooals b.v. dat hij van koninklijke afkomst was, vanwege zijn blijkbaar veelvuldigen omgang aan het hof, zijn onbevreesd optreden tegenover koning Achaz en de onderscheiding waarmee koning Hiskia hem behandelt, maar zekerheid hieromtrent hebben we niet. Uit heel zijn optreden blijkt wel, dat hij aristocraat was en man van hooge ontwikkeling....
